Cuts that hold their shape

Vireo Flint is a working barbershop, not a salon. Skin fades, scissor work, beard shaping and a hot-towel finish — booked by the chair so you know exactly who is cutting and how long you will be sitting.

  • Walk-ins

The first hour of every shift is kept clear for walk-ins. After that we work to the booking sheet.

  • Two on at once

Four chairs in the room, two barbers on shift, so one of them is usually free within the half hour.

  • Thirty to fifty minutes

Every service on the list carries its real duration. We do not stack three clients into one slot.

The cut list

What we cut, what it takes

Prices are flat and include the consultation, the wash where the service calls for one, and the finish. There is no surcharge for thick hair, tight curl patterns or a second pass on the neckline.

Station two, mid-shift

Flint Cut

Clipper and scissor cut to your usual length, tidy neckline, hot towel and a dry finish. The standard booking.

35 min £26

Skin Fade

Graduated fade from skin, blended through the crown, with the top cut to suit how your hair actually sits.

45 min £32

Scissor Crop

Scissor-only work for longer tops, grown-out shapes and anyone moving away from clippers altogether.

50 min £34

Beard Shape

Line-up through the cheek and neck, length taken down with trimmer or scissor, finished with balm.

25 min £18

Cut & Beard

Any cut above paired with a full beard shape in one sitting. Booked as a single longer slot, not two.

60 min £44

Grey Blend

A soft blend that takes the hard edge off grey without flattening it. Added to any cut on the list.

20 min £15

Under Twelves

First haircuts and school cuts, in the quieter part of the day so nobody is rushed through it.

30 min £16

If you are not sure which line to book, choose the Flint Cut and say what you are after in the notes — your barber will move you to the right slot before the day comes round.

In the chair

How a booking actually runs

Four stages, every time, whichever barber you sit with. Knowing the shape of it means you can plan the rest of your afternoon around it.

  • 01

    Five minutes talking

Before anything is switched on we look at how your hair grows, where it parts and what went wrong with the last cut.

  • 02

    Wash and towel

Scissor work is done on clean, damp hair. Clipper work starts dry so the barber can read the existing weight.

  • 03

    The cut, checked twice

Shape first, detail second. You are handed the mirror before the neckline is finished, not after everything is set.

  • 04

    Finish and plan

Hot towel, brush down, and a straight answer on how many weeks this shape will hold before it needs touching.

Behind the chairs

Choose your barber

Both barbers cut everything on the list. Where they differ is the kind of work they are quickest and surest at, so pick on that rather than on who has the earliest slot.

Ira Halloway

Clipper work · fades · grey blends

Ira opened the room above the old print works and still takes the first chair. Fastest hands in the shop on tight fades and anything that needs to look the same on day twenty as on day one.

Scissor work · beards · curl patterns

Maren came to Vireo Flint from a two-chair shop on the coast. Scissor-only crops, grown-out shapes and beards that need a proper line rather than a quick pass with a trimmer.

Field notes from the shop floor

The questions we answer most often while the towel is on. None of it requires buying anything from us.

  • How often to come back

A skin fade reads sharp for about two weeks and acceptable for three. A scissor crop holds five to six. Book on that rhythm rather than waiting until it annoys you.

  • Choosing a product by finish, not name

Clay for matte and movement, cream for soft control on longer tops, pomade only if you actually want shine. One tub lasts months when you use a fingertip, not a scoop.

  • Growing a fade out properly

Let the sides catch up for four weeks and only have the neckline tidied in between. Chasing the line every fortnight keeps you permanently short.

  • Beards need the neck, not the cheek

Most beards look untidy because the neckline has crept up, not because the length is wrong. Two minutes under the jaw buys another week.

  • What to bring

A photo of your hair when you liked it is worth more than a magazine page. If you wear a cap daily or a helmet for work, say so — it changes where weight should sit.

Barbering tools including clippers, shears and brushes arranged on a dark shelf
Blades are stripped, oiled and rotated at the end of every shift. Shears go out for sharpening monthly, which is why no cut here starts with a tug.

Questions

Before you book

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes, for the first hour of each shift and whenever a booked slot goes unclaimed. Outside that window the sheet is full, so you are better off taking a time than waiting on the bench.

What happens if I am running late?

We hold your chair for ten minutes. Past that we may need to shorten the service to protect the next booking, and if the slot cannot be saved we will offer you the next free one that day.

Can I bring my child in?

Under twelves have their own slot on the list, scheduled in the quieter middle of the day. First haircuts are welcome — tell us in the notes and we will allow extra time and keep the clippers off until they are settled.

Will you cut longer or curly hair?

Yes. The Scissor Crop exists for exactly that, and Maren works curl patterns dry before any water goes near them. There is no extra charge for density or texture.

How do I change or cancel a booking?

Reply to the confirmation message any time before the day and we will move or release the slot. Same-day cancellations are fine too, we would just rather know so the chair can go to someone on the waiting list.

How is payment handled?

Card and contactless in the chair at the end of the service. Nothing is taken when you book, there is no deposit, and we do not add a service charge or ask for a tip.

Tell us who you want, what you want cut and roughly when suits. We confirm by email with a time, a barber and a duration — usually the same day.

A request is not a confirmed slot until we reply. Nothing is charged at this stage.
